In a weekend of rest after his hectic off road escapades in Thailand, Alan found himself naturally drawn to go and watch some motorcycle racing. The national superbike championship round was convenient, so he popped along.Alan was thrilled to find some names that he recognised as customers in the programme. It is great to know that you have travelled half way around the world but still find people who buy their parts from you.
As an aside, Alan took this photograph of the tyre truck in the paddock there. In stark contrast to his own activities, which border on manic most weekends, these guys seemed to have time on their hands.

2015 SEES R&G ENJOY MOST SUCCESSFUL RACE SEASON EVER! R&G has enjoyed an incredible season of racing in 2015, not only becoming an Official Supplier to the MCE British Superbike Championship but also being part of six Championship titles and an Ulster Grand Prix victory. The R&G-supported Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki squad were also runners-up in the gruelling FIM Endurance World Championship Superstock class, taking two victories. The 2015 race season proved to be an enthralling one for fans around the world and for R&G it was the most successful in the Company’s history. Moving to become an Official Supplier to the MCE British Superbike Championship for the 2015 season, R&G introduced the "R&G Rookies'Trophy", which was eligible for every rider in the paddock who was embarking on their first full season in one of the regular support classes. After twelve hard-fought rounds, it was Scott Deroue who was crowned eventual winner, with Joe Collier and Kyle Ryde finishing as runners-up. 2015 also saw R&G play a pivotal role in the newly-introduced Santander Consumer Finance KTM British Junior Cup, offering each of the young competitors two sets of R&G "Race-spec" Engine Case Covers and a Toe Chain Guard free of charge, as well as a 50% discount against selected products. It was Cameron Fraser who eventually won the inaugural series, giving R&G its first Championship title of the season with it. Elsewhere in the MCE British Superbike Championship paddock, R&G supported riders enjoyed a clean sweep in the Pirelli National Superstock series. In the lower capacity 600cc class, it was a dominant year for the NMT No Limits Kawasaki rider Mason Law, who took six victories en route to the title. Equally impressive, Josh Elliott wrapped up the 1000cc class, following a dominant season where he finished off the podium just once. Outside of BSB, Road Racing star Peter Hickman secured his first International Road Race victory with a stunning -win in the Superbike class at the Ulster Grand Prix aboard the Briggs Equipment BMW S1000RR. Club racer Alan Russell wrapped up the Crewe & South Cheshire Motorcycle Road Racing Mini Twins series on his Suzuki SV650, having led the series all year. It was not just in the UK where R&G enjoyed success, however, as Kjel Karthin was victorious in the German Super Naked Championship, which is run as a support to the prestigious IDM Superbike Championship. Racing a Team Suzuki KARTHIN MSB GSR750, Karthin led the series from start to finish. In the Swedish Superbike Championship, 17-year-old rider Jesper Hubner defied his young age and rookie status to secure the title in dominant fashion on his Kawasaki ZX-10R. In the FIM Endurance World Championship, the R&G supported Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki finished runners up in the Superstock series, having taken victory at Le Mans and Oschersleben. Last weekend saw the final round of the season for Thundersport GB competitors. The A&R Racing Pre-National Sport 600 class ran right to the wire and produced thrilling racing throughout the season. We have just one more meeting to attend this year, being the Bemsee round at Snetterton 200 and look forward to seeing all our friends and customers there. After that, it is time for all racers to lick the wounds that any season will inflict on their bikes, make any changes for new regulations and get everything into tip-top shape for the coming season. Don't put your bikes away just yet! There are still three meetings for us to attend with the paddock support trucks and the Indian Summer that we are currently enjoying is providing some of the best conditions for racing that we have seen this year.This was possibly a factor in the absolute lap record being broken at Pembrey while we were there last weekend. The new fastest ever two wheel lap around this great airfield circuit now stands at just under 58 seconds. Congratulations to Phil Bevan who broke his own record to stay the fastest rider on two wheels at Pembrey.
Foggy at Donington while we were there with Thundersport GB! No, sadly not THAT Foggy, but the conditions were sufficiently foggy to delay the start of racing for the day, so we all had to stand around and wait until conditions improved. When they did, it was a great day for racing, even thought the schedule got a bit compressed. There was still time for us to fit plenty of tyres though.We will look forward to seeing you all at Brands Hatch this weekend with Bemsee, then at Mallory with Thundersport GB on the 17th & 18th of October, before the season closer for Bemsee at Snetterton 200 the following week. Now is a great time to start thinking about the winter rebuild and getting all those essential items on order to make sure you are there, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when the 2016 season kicks off!
This weekend's Pembrey meeting sees the close of the season for North Gloucester Road Racing Club. It is always a time of mixed emotions at the end of a season; it's great to see everyone at the circuit, and the end of year party is always great fun, but this is always tinged with sadness that we are going to have to sit out a long cold winter before we can do it all again.A&R Racing has had a very long and close relationship with NGRRC over the years, spending countless hours in the paddock and Alan has changed more tyres than he can remember, even wearing his leathers when his race is being called.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our paddock customers and we are looking forward to supporting you again next year, bringing all the bits a racer may need to keep their bike in fine fettle, and looking after the dull job of fitting tyres, allowing you to concentrate on riding your bike.Our other paddock truck will be at Donington Park this weekend looking after riders in the Thundersport GB meeting there. With the paddock support truck going up to Anglesey for the weekend, everything was going to plan. A plan which included a detour to Tonfanau, where Alan was leading the Minitwin championship by just 19 points. With three races to go and points being awarded at the rate of ten for a win, down to one for tenth, there was no room for complacency.The bike was repaired from all previous mishaps, packed in the spare truck, ready to rock and roll, and Alan was fired up for the trip down the Welsh coast. Until he lost the keys to the truck that is... Luckily, Danny Bridges came to the rescue with the loan of a van, so Alan set off from Anglesey after working in the paddock all Saturday, arriving at Tonfanau at 10pm. Sleeping in the van rounded off the perfect physical preparation regimen for racing like a demon the next day.Race one didn't quite go according to plan, with Alan being taken out and scoring zero points. Vincent Brett won the race, cutting Alan's advantage to just nine points...This also dented his aspirations for race two as it meant that he would be starting from the back of the grid, while Brett, his main rival for the championship went off pole position. By the flag, Alan had fought his way up to second, behind Brett. Championship lead down to eight points.This left everything to play for in race three. Brett started from pole again and Alan from second on the grid. Riding a tactical race, Alan followed Brett home to take second place and to win the championship by just seven points.
Huge thanks to Danny Bridges for the loan of the van and commiserations to poor old Jake who accompanied the AA recovery of the truck back to Somerset, arriving at 8am the following day. Heigh ho! It's all in a day's work here at A&R Racing. Here's to more easy days next season. There are only four more rounds for us to attend with the race paddock truck this season, so good luck to all competing, for all the undecided championships out there we look forward to an exciting finish to the year. Not only are we taking the paddock support truck to Anglesey for the second time in a month, but Alan is leading the MiniTwins championship at Tonfanau and could wrap it up[ this weekend if he goes well.Despite having enjoyed a long and very successful racing career, filling the office with well over 100 trophies, including many race wins, Alan has never won a championship. He has been very close on occasions and been runner up several times, but cruel fate seems to have always stepped in and denied him at the last moment.
On Sunday, August 30th we will all be crossing our fingers for Alan, looking forward to good news when he returns. For those who have never been, Tonfanau is a challenging circuit that produces exciting races. Entry for adults is only Ł6 for the day, so the trip to cheer him on is well worth the ride out. Some fantastic roads take you there too!If you are taking part in the Thundersport GB meeting at Anglesey and need something particular from the truck in the paddock, just let us know.
Here at A & R Racing we are really looking forward to the Motorcycle Road Races at Brands Hatch this weekend! Brands Hatch is a challenging circuit, with dramatic bends and fast straights combined. We are anticipating an incredibly busy weekend, given that this event is completely sold out, with a record number of racers signed up. Combined with an excellent weather forecast for racing, this should make for an incredibly exciting event.
As usual, our support truck will be in the paddocks, on hand with the spare parts which will doubtless be needed. We will also have our usual stock of tyres including the Bridgestone wet tyres mentioned in our previous blog. We are looking forwards to seeing everyone at this event and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend of racing!
After a frantic race to repair the Suzuki after the crash at Pembrey, Alan was back racing at Rockingham in the Thundersport Club this weekend. The bike was fixed up just in time for Alan to take part in the Stocktwins class, riding at Rockingham for the first time! Despite the on-and-off weather, which sometimes provided bad conditions and sometimes very good ones, Alan did very well! He came 6th, 5th, 3rd, and, impressively, 2nd in the races he took part in.
These fantastic results were achieved in spite of the sticking throttle, which was still giving Alan some minor trouble on Saturday, and a misty visor on Sunday. For these races, Alan used the Bridgestone wet tyres, which performed exceptionally well on the Rockingham circuit. These tyres come highly recommended for use on F400 minitwins. For best results, try using a combination of an 120 front tyre with an 170 rear tyre. These tyres are now available in our online shop for delivery or collection in person from our support truck in the race paddocks of Bemsee, Thundersport GB and North Gloucester meetings.
It was back to Wales this weekend for Alan, who was once again riding his Suzuki SV650 twin at Pembrey. After successful qualifying on Saturday, Alan was able to ride in both the Thunderbike sport and Minitwins classes. He took the opportunity this weekend to test the new Continental Race Attack tyres. On Saturday, Alan finished third in both Thunderbike Sport races. Kurtis Butler provided his main opposition in the two Minitwin races, making for a race-long battle in the first race to gain fifth place. In the second Minitwin race, Alan beat Kurtis Butler by a tense 13 hundredths of a second for another fifth place.
Sunday's races began with the Thunderbike Sport at 9.25am, which commenced in typical Pembrey rain. Despite the weather, Alan garnered his first Bemsee win on the SV650, taking the lead in lap one to win by nine seconds. Sadly his winning streak was marred by a sticking throttle in the second Thunderbike Sport race which forced him to stop. The first Minitwin race on Sunday was similarly eventful, with Saturday's worn tyres losing some grip on the wet track and Alan bringing the bike home in 8th place. The second Minitwins race was an exciting 7 way battle from the outset. Mason Williams, Paul Wilby, Joe Buxton, Kurtis Butler, Lewis Mason and Alan were locked in competition up until lap nine, when Alan braked a tiny bit too hard through the hairpin bend, exiting the race over the handlebars. Despite this mishap, all was not lost as Alan set his best ever lap at Pembrey with a time of 1:03.1! The task at hand now is to fix up the bike for next week's races at Rockingham...
Following a successful weekend at Tonfanau, Alan came away with three more first-place trophies to add to his collection. Despite using his SV for the first time, he is gelling with it really well. The new bike is all packed in the lorry ready for this weekend's races at Pembrey, where he also hopes to try out the Bemsee mini-twinners! We're sure that Alan will be busy fitting tyres between races as usual, notably the new Metzelere Racetec Interact RR tyres which are now available! These excellent tyres are suitable for Minitwins as well as Formula 400 bikes and many others. Call into the paddocks to pick up yours this weekend.

Too many of us have heard the sickening sound of a bike falling over in the back of the van on the way to a race meeting, leaving the uncomfortable feeling of how much extra work is now going to be needed when you get to the circuit.Ratchet straps can be a good answer but attaching them can be a royal pain with plenty of fiddling to get them in just the right place.

It is always good to see customers past and present on the time sheets of great motorcycling events. This is even more true at TT time. The people that take part in the world's greatest road races are due massive respect from all of us. There is no greater skill or courage shown on a motorcycle than in the Isle of Man, and the racing from there this year was fantastic, keeping us glued to ITV4's coverage as we couldn't be there ourselves.
Nearly as good as being there though will be to see some of the leading lights of the British Superbike Championship and the TT in parade laps and static displays at Castle Combe this weekend. The North Gloucester Road Racing Club's meeting there will be hosting some of the big star names in between races to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 500 Miles d'Endurance Race. With two meetings to attend, and highly changeable weather conditions, last weekend was a very busy one for us, particularly in the tyre changing department. A huge thank you to all the racers and customers at the Thundersport GB Cadwell Park meeting and the Bemsee Outlon Park races. It is great fun attending the meetings so that we can see our customers face to face and soak up the paddock atmosphere while fitting tyres and dispensing essential spares to help everyone keep their bikes in fine fettle.To recuperate, Alan is taking a leisurely chug around Spain on his Bonneville with Jay. In the office we had a small wager as to how far it would be before there was a mechanical ooh-nasty, with most bets placing the event some distance this side of the Portsmouth ferry. They say a change is as good as a rest.The change in this instance though is that Alan isn't going to be changing tyres for everyone in the paddock or dispensing spare parts. This trip is to support the British riders who are all doing so well in the three classes of MotoGP racing.
This weekend sees the French GP at Le Mans, so Alan will be cheering wildly for Danny Kent and Wee John McPhee in the Moto3 class. Will Danny make it four in a row? His season couldn't have got off to a much better start, and his demeanour is just oozing confidence.You can be sure that Alan will be cheering himself hoarse for Sam Lowes in the Moto2 race as well. Sam has been on the podium twice so far this year, with a third place and a win, so you can be sure that there is more to come from him.Just to make sure that there are no vocal chords whatsoever left in the Russell throat on his return to Blighty, the wealth of British talent in the MotoGP race will have him and the thousands of other Brits who make the short trip to Le Mans, leaping to their feet and shouting like their lives depend on it. Good luck to Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith, Scott Redding and Eugene Laverty in mixing it with the luminaries of the big class.Don't worry about loss of voice on Alan's part though, Geoff and Jake will be here, ready and waiting to take your telephone orders for your race bike essentials while he sits in the corner sucking a lozenge.
Alan's record on the new Minitwin is looking good. From seven races, he has scored three wins and four second places. The new bike is going well and Alan is clearly loving it, clearing off to win all thre races of his weekend at Tonfanau earlier this month. Watch this space for more outings as and when the busy schedule of supporting racers at Bemsee, North Gloucester Road Racing Club and Thundersport GB rounds allows.Talking of paddock support, out new van had its first outing at Cadwell Park last weekend. Despite the weather doing its best to turn the new awning into a kite, all worked well and everything was to hand so nobody had to wait too long for spares or for tyres to be fitted.
This weekend, we will be in the paddock at Snetterton for Bemsee's round at the fabulous 300 circuit. This weekend will feel quite odd for the crew here at A&R Racing. Having been to Brands Hatch three times in March, we won't know what to do with ourselves as we are not there. In fact, we are not out with the paddock truck at all this weekend.This gives Alan a chance to get out and do some more racing himself. After a very successful North Gloucester round at Brands in March, this week sees him out on the new Suzuki at Tonfanau. Situated on the coast of Wales, about 20 miles from Aberystwyth, this short but technical circuit produces some very close racing. The atmosphere is "Old School" and full of charm, with a friendly welcome from the locals. If you have Sunday free, we can recommend spectating at Tonfanau.

Well, it seems that Alan doesn't anyway. After an absence of ten years from racing at Brands Hatch, and despite being in a new class on an unfamiliar bike, he scooped four second places over the weekend at the first North Gloucester meeting of the season.This means that Alan is now leading the championship, and needless to say was absolutely delighted at the way things went at Brands.
Unfortunately, the busy season of supporting riders through the paddock truck at North Gloucester Road Racing Club, Thundersport GB and Bemsee rounds, will make it impossible for him to take part in as many races as he would like, so the championship lead is held only temporarily, but it is always good to get off to such a great start.Being so early in the year, it was very nearly dark by the end of proceedings but we did manage to snap a semi visible picture of Alan with the spoils.
Despite almost being a resident of Brands Hatch for many seasons, particularly this month, Alan hasn't raced at the circuit for ten years.This weekend that all changes as Alan will be out on the Suzuki SV650, taking part in the North Gloucester Road Racing Club's meeting there.
Being the kind of guy that he is, this doesn't mean that Alan will be neglecting the needs of his customers at the paddock truck. Talking of Brands Hatch, last week saw the first outing of the season for our paddock support truck. And what a great start it was. Many thanks to all the Thundersport GB competitors who kept us busy throughout, making this one of the busiest and most successful weekend meetings we have ever had.
Personally, we find the use of tab washers to be a little more convenient when it comes to chainging ratios in a hurry at the circuit. You may also find the ability to get the power down early (or at any other time really) with a sprocket in this condition.With the new season coming up it is a good time to review your sprocket collection front and rear. Do you have enough choice of ratios for all the circuits we visit? Are your sprockets in good condition? How about your chain?We still have some great offers on chains from DID and Tsubaki, so you can save money while you stock up. Having a spare chain on hand never hurts. Likewise a few joining links are a good addition to any small spares collection, just in case you have to remove the chain to get the swinging arm out or what have you.

We are confidently expecting an invitation to the Brands Hatch staff Christmas party this year. This week, we attended the Thundersport GB training day at Donington Park. This was a very good day out, with encouraging turnout of new riders and old friends. Despite bitterly cold conditions (well, what do you expect in a British February?), the day was a great success. It is brilliant to see the level of enthusiasm that drags people out of nice warm homes on such a day to ride their bikes at such a great circuit, picking up the information they need for their first season in racing.Many of the questions we had on the day related to the choice of tyres. Luckily, Graham from Continental was on hand to offer first class technical advice. Graham will be with us at all Thundersport GB meetings this season. Taken at Mallory Park in 1989, the sequence shows Alan launching his CBR600 into the Gerrards Bend scenery. By modern circuit standards, the run-off area at the time was tiny, so Alan was still going at a fair pace when he hit the tyre wall.We like the last image in the sequence where Alan is being 'eaten' by the tyre wall as his bike sails majestically on its own sweet way, doing a fair bit of damage into the process.Luckily, Alan wasn't seriously hurt but he did get knocked out and have to spend the nigth in the hospital at Leicester. So, Alan, do we get the office biscuits upgraded to Hobnobs now, or do we have to post kmore embarrassing photos from the archive?

These beautiful brake lever guards from Zeta are incredibly tough too. Machined from A7009 T6 aluminium, the design is adjustable to protect brake levers on a huge range of bikes. As with all brake lever guards, these will prevent the accidental operation of the front brake in case of contact with another rider.However, accidental operation of the clutch lever can also be catastrophic, even though slightly less dramatic than the front brake. Last weekend, the team had a day out trail riding on Salisbury Plain for fun and teambuilding. There is nothing like slipping and sliding about on muddy surfaces with multiple crashes and standing in waist-deep cold water for bringing people together.It is surprising how good emptying out your boots can feel after they have been full of water for what seems like hours and feeling like they weigh a tonne each.
There was plenty of mickey taking and mud-slinging (of the verbal kind of course) in the après off-road pub, where a jolly good time was had by all.Luckily, there were no lasting injuries, so the team was back in the office, bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday morning. Next year, the ACU is adding a standing regulation so that solo machines have to carry the same kind of rain light at the rear, that the sidecars have had for a number of years now. It is no good just going out and buying any old light though as the regulataions are quite specific. Here is what the ACU says on the subject:For 2015 Red Rear Warning Lights will be a requirement for solo road race machines. Classic and Vintage machines racing exclusively in their own races or events are exempt.The requirements for these lights are as followsAll motorcycles must have a functioning red light mounted at the rear of the machine to be used in rain or low visibility conditions as instructed by Race Control. The team must ensure that the light is switched on whenever a rain tyre is fitted on the motorcycle and/or when any practice or race is declared “wet” by Race Control.Lights must comply with the following:a) lighting direction must be parallel to the machine centre line (motorcycle running direction), and clearly visible from the rear at least 15 degrees to both left and right sides of the machine centre line.b) mounted on the seat/rear bodywork approximately on the machine centre line, in a position approved by the Chief Technical Officer. In case of dispute over the mounting position or visibility, the decision of the Chief Technical Officer will be final.c) power output/luminosity equivalent to approximately: 10 – 15W (incandescent) 0.6 – 1.8 W (LED).d) the switch must be accessible.e) rain light power supply may be separated from the motorcycle main wiring and battery.Luckily, we have two lights for different fitting methods available from our online store; a surface mounted type and a through panel type. Despite the circuit of Pembrey being relatively flat, being an old airfield, the A&R Racing Services team had plenty of ups and downs there last weekend's North Gloucester Road Racing Club meeting.Alan was leading the first Formula 400 race when his engine blew in spectacular fashion, putting an end to what was a promising weekend for him. Looking on the bright side, this left him more time for fitting tyres and dispensing invaluable spares without the amount of rushing that he had to do at Anglesey. However, I am not going to suggest to him that this is a good thing for fear of a flying tyre lever making contact with my person...
Geoff, on the other hand, had a somewhat better weekend. Despite being knocked off by a wayward SV650 early in proceedings, he managed three wins in the Streetstock 400 class and a third in the Formula 400.More trophies for the office collection!

My mum used to say "A good man works to the last". As if to prove this, Alan is so devoted to his customers that he was even fitting tyres while wearing his leathers at Anglesey. Even though his race had already been called and the other competitors were heading for the collection area, Alan was still fitting tyres for all he was worth.Despite this, Alan still went on to get a race win, a second place and two third places over the weekend. Extreme brake contrasts as in the photo may be an exaggeration of the variety of systems available, but ask any racer what the most powerful part of any bike is and they will undoubtedly tell you it is the brakes. Gaining speed efficiently is not much use unless the speed can be reduced with even more efficiency. This has to happen corner after corner, lap after lap with predictable power.Take a look at your own brakes. We have had some great pictures from Rusty at Racing Line Photography. These show Alan hustling up the Mountain. Rusty and his team are great supporters of the meetings that we all attend and their images are always spot-on. They get to photograph from all the best vantage points and, to our knowledge, have never missed a rider yet, so if you need good images for your publicity or sponsors, this is the place.Apart from the rear brake malady reported last week, the new bike behaved itself well and the Continental Race Attack tyres gave fantastic grip and feedback in the variable conditions.
Our customer Simon Gates also put the Conti tyres to good use with North Gloucester wins at Castle Combe, then last week at the Donington Park meeting. We are fitting lots of these in the paddocks now, so get your orders in early to make sure that there are enough for everyone.Having had very a successful weekend at Rockingham with Thundersport GB and Donington Park with North Gloucester Road Racing Club last week, Alan is taking a well-deserved rest this weekend. His plans included throwing a tent on the back of the bike and heading for the horizon. The move into our new unit is now complete, with the signs going up at the end of last week.There is now more room for stock, better facilities for personal callers and much easier access for loading the paddock support vehicle.Over the years, we have prided ourselves on the service offered to motorcycle racers both personally and via mail order, so we are looking forward to many more days in the paddock, more personal callers picking up spares and continued expansion of the product range in our online shop.

Alan't weekend at Cadwell Park didn't go entirely according to plan, as the rear brake caliper seized on and dragged the bike back a little. The resultant damage to the rear disc can be seen in the image. That one won't be much use but the quirky rectangular shape may qualify it as a piece of modern art perhaps...Alan's results were three sixth places and a seventh, overall not bad considering that the rear brake was using up more than its fair share of power, and Alan hasn't raced at Cadwell Park for nine years.
The big smile was over lap times, with consistent improvement over the weekend, setting his fastest lap times in Sunday's last race, while having a good dice for third place and generally enjoying every second of his racing. Here's to seeing you out on track more often this season and heading well towards the pointy end of the field.
The old unit was getting a bit cramped and making life a little awkward with the level of business that we are now experiencing through mail order sales, personal callers, stock for the paddock support trucks and our online shop.To make it easier to keep everyone happy, we have moved to a new, larger unit, from which we will keep dispensing all the essential race bike spares and tyres, but with a bit more room to move around. There will also be more space for personal callers, who will still find us easily as the new unit is on the same industrial estate as our original home.Look out for some pictures of the new premises, coming soon.
Looking at the weather forecast for the week ahead, Alan is very likely to be busy changing tyres for customers in the paddock.However, he is entered for the 400 race on his new Honda. It's great attending race meetings with our paddock support truck and seeing all our customers having fun racing. However, we do like to get on our own bikes and join in whenever possible too. If your race bike has an electric start, keeping the standard switch cluster is one way of making sure that you have a kill switch and start button available. However, a better way may well be to use one of our universal starter and kill switch units. These are clearly and simply laid out without all the clutter of a standard cluster. "Brrrrr!" is not quite the word for conditions at Donington Park last Tuesday. You have to admire the fortitude of bike racers going out to do their training day in conditions that would have made Titus Oates think twice before going outside.Everything went smoothly though and everyone went home happy. A number of riders tried the new Continental wet race tyres on the day and were very impressed. Let's face it, if a tyre can impress people in the snow, it has to be doing something right.
Graham Matcham from Continental came along to dispense technical advice and we had our normal range of spares and essential items available from the paddock truck. The hardest part was taking our hands out of our pockets to dispense them!Oh well, at least Alan was in the warm and dry, giving evidence at an inquest. On many modern bikes with big brake discs and deep swing arms at the rear, the small job of checking and adjusting tyre pressures can be far more awkward than it should be. In the heat of race day, anything that can be fiddly becomes an irritation when you least need one.

After a long season of fitting tyres and dispensing race parts from the paddock truck and via mail order, Alan has decided it's time for some relaxation. I'm not quite sure where the relaxation comes into it, but he has booked himself in for one of the excellent off-road riding tours of Laos organised by Mike Wake.Let's call it dynamic relaxation for want of a better term. The pictures I have seen from Mike's Lao Rider tours certainly look like the country provides some very interesting and challenging off-road riding and some fabulous places to visit so a part of me is very jealous.
Alan being the organised sort of bloke that he is wouldn't take on such a tour without due preparation though, so he has bought a 300 GasGas enduro bike on which to practice. The first surprise was just how much of a rocket ship this 'little' 300cc two-stroke is. The second surprise came on the weekend 'fun' enduro organised by WOR Events just north of Shrewsbury, when he found himself falling off every twenty yards or so at the beginning. With helpful marshals doubling up as instructors though, he soon got the hang of it and is now confidently looking forward to taking on the challenges of Laos.
Next season of course. March may seem like a long time away now, but time soon flies and there is always a lot to do in order to prepare for a race season. The final meeting of the Bemsee 2013 season at Brands Hatch provided some great racing to provide a fitting end to a great year. As always, Alan had a busy time in the paddock fitting tyres and dispensing general spares.The Bemsee organisation kept the meeting running like clockwork and a good time was had by all, on and off the track.Thank you to the club, all officials, marshals and medical teams for making all this possible, and a special thank you to all the competitors for continued support and custom through the season both in person and through our online shop.
Looking forward to 2014, many riders have started planning new bikes, modifications and rebuilds to take their campaign forward into the new season. The Bemsee rounds look like being fantastic again with races planned for Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Oulton Park, Silverstone International, Donington Park and Cadwell Park. This has got to be the best and most challenging calendar in British racing. In just two weeks time we will be heading for Donington Park with the paddock support truck for the very last outing of our 2013 season. Thundersport GB is organising the meeting and we will be there with tyres and spares as always.With the time of year comes a slight chill, which even the hardiest soul may find a little concentration-sapping, particularly when cutting through the air at racing speeds. To help make sure that you finish the race being able to feel all the parts you could feel at the beginning, we suggest that you take a look at the Thermo-Lite range of under garments. These are amazingly good at keeping in your body heat, yet thin and light enough to fit comfortably under tight racing leathers. Ordering in advance is recommended to make sure we have your size to collect in the paddock.
It is a very sad time for all forms of British motorsport, particularly in terms of employment for people in the hard-hit east midlands area who relied on work from Mallory Park. Under the assumed banner of a noise complaint, greed and avarice have forced This tremendouse, historic and important circuit into administration.Exactly how people who weren't even born when a race circuit started can buy a house near it and then start complaining about the noise, sufficiently to beguile a British court into cutting circuit hours to a point where they are no longer economical is beyond me. Justice? I doubt it. I have just two fond hopes now. Firstly, that the administrators can find some way of keeping this circuit going, even at a reduced capacity. Failing that, if the property developers do move in, I hope that they are forced to build a high proportion of affordable dwellings so that all the unemployed local people, recently released prisoners with nowhere to go, and new arrivals in our country can share the enjoyment of this beautiful part of the country.Alan was there at the closing of the circuit and it was a highly emotional time for all bike and car racing fans. The history here can't be bought, sold or replaced. It is a part of the soil, the spirit of racers long gone mingles with the cheers of recent crowds to raise the hairs on the back of my neck every time I think of my favourite spectator circuit, Mallory Park.The same trick has been tried with varying levels of success at different circuits around the country, particularly, Croft Autodrome, Castle Combe and Oulton Park. Alan's Aintree debut went well with a third place in his first ever Formula 400 race at this historic circuit, losing second place only on the last lap. Sadly, bike gremlins caused DNFs in the Formula 400 and Open 500 class for the rest of the weekend, but Alan returned full of praise for the track and the organisers, Aintree Motorcycle Racing Club, who organise 6 meetings a year on the Club Course.The conditions were dry but cool and the new Continental race tyres behaved impeccably, giving stable, predictable handling hat inspired confidence to push, even on an unfamiliar track.When asked about racing at Aintree again, Alan's reply was "Definitely", so we are hoping for a bit more reliability from the bike next time there and looking forward to more silverware for the already groaning office trophy shelf. The circuit at Aintree is very significant and historic. Back in its glory days of the 1950s and 60s it hosted the British GP five times as well as a non-championship F1 event known as the Aintree 200. It was the scene of the first ever victory in a Grand Prix for a British driver in a British car when Sterling Moss won the 1957 event in a Vanwall.The grandstands were shared with the horse racing track at the time and many prestigious races were fought out between the greatest of the great at that time.
The grand prix circuit closed in 1964 but racing carries on there to this day on the 1.5 mile club circuit, which still uses part of the famous old track, featuring four right hand bends of varying radius and complexity, and one left hander, so must pose a real test for tyres and riders with the left hand side being cold for much of the lap.This weekend, Alan is taking the Honda to Aintree, racing in the Formula 400 and the open 500cc classes. This is his first time at the circuit, so will be a learning experience as well as a chance to race against new opposition on a circuit that looks simple on paper. However, experience has invariably shown that circuits which look simple on paper invariably have a few surprises up their sleeve with technical sections over which, local knowledge can be worth a lot of time.As always, Alan will be doing his utmost to meet the challenge head on and we are looking forward to a new trophy or two adorning the office cabinets next week. As a thank you from the awfully nice people at Pirelli, Alan has been whisked off today for a tour of the Caterham F1 facility in Oxfordshire. He will be hob-nobbing with their drivers Charles Pic, Giedo Van Der Garde, Heikki Kovalainen and Alexander Rossi as well as the designers, mechanics and engineers that keep this great British team moving.There is bound to be a buzz about the place with the team just returning from Sunday's Italian Grand Prix where their drivers finished 17th and 18th.Although Alan will probably return with a serious case of workshop envy, this won't mean a move into the four wheel world of tyres, we are far too busy keeping stocks of Pirelli tyres up to date for all our bike racing customers.

Well, why not there? It seems to have started everywhere else now after that glorious summer that we have been enjoying until recently. With a few meetings to go this season, this probably makes it a good time to remind racers that they can find the usual great range of wet race tyres at our paddock support truck, including the new range of Continental race tyres which seem to be going very well indeed.
A number of minitwin riders have now tried the new Bridgestone 170/630/17 E087 wet reat and come back with very positive report on its performance. In theory, this tyre is somewhat oversize for the 4.5 inch rims, but in practice seems to work quite well and is a good bit more affordable then the Dunlops. Every oittle helps!

Bridgestone's best-selling 165 section rear wet tyre has been replaced with a 170 section. Not a big change, but also not the only change in the ever evolving world of motorcycle tyres.If you wanted anywhere that defined the word "wet" last weekend it was Snetterton. The rain came at every intensity from a very light shower to blinding, horizontal torrents, giving track conditions that swung wildly between dry all round the circuit to a virtual river of rain.

From Friday, June 21st there is a hectic weekend in prospect for the A&R Racing team. We have two trucks out, one at Oulton Park for the Thundersport GB meeting on Friday and Saturday, and another at the Bemsee Snetterton 300 meeting.These two brilliant circuits offer contrasting, yet challenging styles, with a great contrast in age too. Oulton Park has evolved over 80 years to offer massive elevation changes and brows to test man and machine. On the other hand, Snetterton is characteristically flat as you would expect from an airfield track, but the addition of many completely new bends in the total facelift that MSV gave it a couple of years back has introduced incredible variety. Both circuits demand a huge amount from bike and rider, so machine preparation is vital.

The Biketek sprocket nuts have just arrived in our online shop. Apart from being resplendent in anodised red, black or gold finish, these save a good deal of weight compared to normal steel sprocket nuts. This weight is unsprung where reductions really count, and every bit of rotating mass that takes less energy to accelerate makes a contribution, however small to the power available to drive your bike forward.These will suit most modern bikes, being available in 10mm and 12mm thread. There is no loss of strength either as the threads are formed in stainless steel inserts, so you can be sure that your sprockets are securely attached, and can be changed over and over again without wearing the threads. This is a great piece of video footage shot from the bike of Francesco Cavalli in the EDI Asia 400 race at Pembrey at the beginning of May. The race long battle went to Cavalli in the end, leaving Alan in second place. With Castle Combe fast approaching on June the 8th, there is a huge workload to get everything ready to take part in the North Gloucester meeting. Having damaged one bike at Thruxton last season, it was quicker to get another one on board for Pembrey, swapping the front end and wheels from bike 1. So far so good...
Had it not been for the highside in the third EDI Asia 400 race, things would have been just fine. With second place in the first two races, Alan was fired up and going well. The bike then fired Alan 20ft into the air, causing him to land on his head, writing off his helmet, knocking him unconscious and causing the medical team to cut off his leathers, just as they had done at Thruxton.So, for a full house of twos, we have...
We hope you all enjoyed watching the Moto GP last weekend. Seeing the heroic efforts of Scott Redding winning the Moto 2 race, and a very beaten up Cal Crutchlow's great second in the main event is enough to make any British heart glad. Alan was there and can testify to the great atmosphere that there was at Le Mans.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't anyone's friend over that weekend, especially not Alan's. He calculates that out of the 700 miles his trip took him, 650 or so were covered in heaving rain. Add to that the leaking rent-a-tent that filled up his bag of clothes with water and you have a pretty soggy weekend all round. All that Alan had to wear for dinner and beers on Saturday night was his waterproof suit! Missing the boat back and having to make a 100 mile detour to an alternative ferry in pouring rain didn't help much either!As always though, Alan is smiling through it all and will be at Oulton Park for the Bemsee meeting on May 31st/June 1st as well as the North Gloucester meeting at Castle Combe on June 8th and 9th, dispensing cheer and bike spares from the familiar paddock truck. With a weekend off from bike racing duties, what better to do than go and take in some bike racing?As the A&R Racing Services paddock truck is parked up for the weekend, Alan has tajkenb the opportunity to head off to Le Mans to watch this weekend's Moto GP racing. With the season well under way now, the fascinating battle for supremacy between the established stars, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Rossi et al, and the Young Pretender Marquez is bound to draw a huge crowd to the Circuit Bugatti. Like all British fans, Alan will be saving a special cheer for Cal Crutchlow as he continues to cover himself in Moto GP glory. Hopefully, the vocal chords will recover in time for the next outing when he gets back to Britain
This means that as well as the usual huge choice of tyres and race bike spares always carried on our truck to British meetings, Alam will be able to dispense a blow by blow account of the event to customers at the forthcoming Bemsee round at Oulton Park at the end of May.Don't worry if you need something particular taken along for collection from the paddock, Geoff, Jake and Matthew are still here ready to take your calls and orders so that we can make sure what you want will be on the truck in time.
Alan was out on the Honda in the EDI Asia 400 races at Pembrey last weekend. Trying out Continental race tyres for the first time, the team was delighted to get two second places, bringing Alan's trophy count to 101. We will need a bigger office to accommodate them all before long!
Unfortunately, the luck ran out a little on Sunday, when Alan crashed out of the race, landing on his head and sustaining damage to an ankle. Luckily, no serious harm was done and after a few days hopping about on crutches, he will be back to his old self. The recovery in mobility will please all the brolly dollies at the forthcoming Thundersport GB round who are swapping high heels for running spikes as we speak...

Here it is, hot of the eBay presses! Preparation on the new racer has started and Alan will be aiming to get out on it at as many 400 rounds as he can this year. So to follow up on the item from last week where the bike was introduced, here is its picture. There's a lot to do in order to bring this bike up to Alan's high standard like the last one. A lot of bits will be needed, but luckily, Alan has access to a great selection from stock. Despite having an incredibly busy start to the season, what with the new truck, new online shop and new staff members, Alan has managed to find the time to prepare his new RVF400 race bike for the season ahead. As the old bike had a bit of a battering towards the end of last season, it is now taking the role of spare bike, having been lovingly put back together to undo the damage done in Alan's Thruxton crash. Look out for Alan at as many meetings as time will allow in 2013.
Snetterton certainly lived up to the latitude it shares with Vladivostok at the weekend. Despite the best efforts of all concerned, the weather pictured here put paid to racing activity on Saturday after just seven of the first 8 races had been run. In failing visibility and with questionable grip even on full wets, there was no option for the clerk of the course but to abandon.
The marshals, medical team and all race officials were heroic in the conditions, and we are sure that every competitor there will join us in thanking them for their dedication, without which, there would be no racing at all. Special thoughts go out to Sue Sherwood who fell in the collecting area, breaking her wrist . Hope you get well soon Sue, see you at Brands Hatch!

In a rare weekend off, Alan went to watch the final British Superbikes Round at Brands Hatch GP Circuit at the weekend. In a fantastic triple header of BSB races, Shane (Shakey) Byrne clinched the title ahead of arch rival Tommy Hill. In the true sporting nature of bike racing, Tommy is seen here helping Shakey celebrate with the champagne. A great shot of two people at the top of their game, enjoying the hard won spoils of victory.
Shakey has risen to the very top of his profession from fairly humble beginnings as a club racer with Bemsee. At the time, he was often a customer at the A&R Racing paddock truck, like so many others, getting tyres supplied and fitted efficiently and picking up numerous other essential items at the time. We are proud and happy to have played even a tiny, peripheral part in the Shane Byrne success story. Well done Shakey and all the BSB riders that have given us such great racing.
This weekend sees the last outing of our familiar paddock truck at Mallory Park for the final Thundersport UK meeting of 2012. Mallory is a great circuit for spectators and competitors alike, with views over the whole circuit from many great vantage points, so if you have never been there to watch, now is a good time to start.
For competitors, the circuit offers a huge variety of challenges from the everlasting Gerards Bend to a hairpin and tight as you like bus stop chicane. This all puts a great strain on machinery and tyres, so as always, we will be there in the paddock to supply all the essential items a racer needs and offer our customary tyre fitting service. This fabulously fast circuit saw some great racing at the North Gloucester Club's last meeting of the season. Racing was held on Saturday only, and saw a packed programme with Alan racing in the 400cc class. Sadly, a coming together with another rider while lying second caused a mishap that left the bike in rather a sorry state and Alan nursing a damaged paw.
Smiling through the pain, he still managed to fit countless tyres from the A&R Racing paddock truck, making sure that everyone got what they needed. We are looking forward to next season for more of the same (apart from the accident of course), as well as helping racers find the essential items for their winter rebuilds in the meantime. Geoff managed to stay on his thousand, going seventh fastest in practice. Sadly, the randomly allocated grid positions in race one put him on 31st place. Despite this, he managed to make up 11 places in a packed field to finish 20th.

It was back to Wales this weekend for Alan, who was once again riding his Suzuki SV650 twin at Pembrey. After successful testing on Friday, Alan was qualified to ride in both the Thunderbike sport and Minitwins classes. He took the opportunity this weekend to test the new Continental Race Attack tyres. On Saturday, Alan finished third in both Thunderbike Sport races. Kurtis Butler provided his main opposition in the two Minitwin races, making for a race-long battle in the first race to gain fifth place. In the second Minitwin race, Alan beat Kurtis Butler by a tense 13 hundredths of a second for another fifth place.
